Five for Friday- Snow Day!

It’s a SNOW DAY!  It is my first snow day since moving back to Ohio and the best part is that we don’t have to make it up!  I taught for 8 years in NC and each snow day was bitter sweet.  We had to make them up on other days that we had scheduled off or on Saturdays.  NOT this one!  YAY!
I was not planning on this day off and since I have been SO busy this year, I haven’t really been blogging as much as I would like to.  Therefore, I hadn’t prepared for this week’s Five for Friday.  However, with the day off, I thought I would jump back on board with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share my Five for Friday!

1. Last year I had one snow day and in honor of my snow day I put everything in my TpT store on sale.  I know everyone just finished shopping the huge Cyber Monday/Tuesday sales, but I am going to hold another sale today on my entire store, in honor of this snow day!
So if you missed the sales, head over now to grab some goodies! Click HERE for my TpT store!

2. Are you ready for the holidays!  I know this isn’t school related, but it was fun and I thought I would share some personal experiences as well!  I love having a real Christmas Tree.  This week we went and cut down our tree.  Here is a picture of me pretending to cut down our tree! I actually wasn’t the one to do the cutting. (Shh…don’t tell anyone)  Then there is another picture of the tree once it was all decorated!

3. One of the hardest things for me as a third grade teacher has been doing less thematic units.  At my school the early grades do a lot of the fun creative thematic units, like I was used to, but the upper grades really don't.  I really do miss the cutsie, yet educational stuff I did with my first graders.  We do create integrated units, though, that have helped a TON with planning.  I really feel like they help create a flow from one subject area to the next.

Do you use integrated units?  Do you teach units based on content or themes?  Just curious?!?!  I would love some suggestions to balance it out between the two!

4. As I watch the news about Nelson Mandela, I am reminded that he was an ordinary man who did extraordinary things!  As teachers, we do extraordinary things each day, just on a smaller scale.  I think about how many lives we impact and am thankful for the opportunity I am given as an educator.  I truly believe his words:

5. Donor's Choose!  Have you ever done a project on Donor's Choose?  I have a project going right now and couldn't have been more surprised to have some new donations this week!  If you haven't tried it, you should.  I have requested some materials to bring more technology into my classroom.  Click on the picture below to head to my Donor's Choose Project!

If you are having a snow day, too, enjoy your day!
Happy Friday!
